HOBBIES & ACTIVITIES
PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEOGRAPHY
Growing up I always had a camera in my hand, even at a young age. I was in several different photography organizations as a kid, including 4-H. I joined our high schools Mass Communications class (which was a top of the line program for a high school in its day) and began learning videography and broadcast journalism in great detail. I loved storyboarding and editing and often volunteered for as many assignments as I could, covering any type of school activity.
I got my first DSLR camera as a gift from my parents when I joined my high school newspaper, where I served primarily as a sports writer and photographer. I would even juggle and combine my rolls with the Mass Comm class and Newspaper covering the same stories and events for both. It was a challenge for sure, often pushing me far to close to deadlines, but this experience taught me how to balance and manage a workload and still accomplish my tasks, working smarter and not harder.
SPORTS & ACTIVITIES
In middle school, I took up lacrosse. At the time there was no lacrosse team in middle or high schools, so we were considered a "club" petitioning to be an actual school sport and to become a lettered sport. I played for 7 years, attending several camps and clinics over the years taught by local colleges ( UVA, RMC, Baltimore) I even volunteered to coach a year after graduation.
As a kid I was very 'involved', balancing Boy Scouts, 4-H, journalism, sports, and taking care of our family horses. I always wanted to play soccer but I just couldn't add another activity to a very loaded plate. After graduating high school I wanted just a blank slate, a do-nothing style after growing up on the constant go. One day, I was having a particularly rough day where it felt like nothing was going right, I went driving around the college campus I discovered an athletic field I was unaware of and there happened to be a soccer ball in the middle of the field. I decided to run off some of that frustration playing up and down the field for hours. This became a regular after-class activity for me, playing solo for months, until someone discovered me out there.
I got invited to join the soccer club and as it turned out there was even a class specifically for soccer that counted as a physical education class. After leaving college one of my former teammates texted me and inviting me to play indoor soccer in downtown Richmond at SCOR. There was even a sand soccer tournament the team got invited to participate in at Virginia Beach. I enjoyed playing for years, up until there was an unfortunate incident on the field which led to my ACL and meniscus being absolutely destroyed.
